A circus theatre spectacular, the story is told through song and dance, combining with the energy, physicality and athleticism of circus arts, resulting in a contemporary cutting edge performance art form which fully engages the senses and keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Mark Fisher
Architect and Show Designer, Conceiver (UK)

 


Mark has an international reputation for creating spectacular live entertainment. He has designed some of the most memorable rock concerts ever staged, including “The Wall” for Pink Floyd, every Rolling Stones show since 1989, and every U2 concert since 1992.

He also designed the theatre, scenery and acrobatic effects for “KÀ”, the permanent show by Cirque du Soleil at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and the opening and closing ceremonies for both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Mark’s current work includes the design of the “U2 360 World Tour” that opened in June 2009, the design of the Elvis show for Cirque du Soleil at City Center in Las Vegas, and the design of the Opening Ceremony for the Asian Games in Guangzhou. Mark Fisher MVO OBE RIBA is a chartered architect registered in the UK. HM The Queen honoured him for his work on “The Millennium Show”, and again for his work on her Golden Jubilee in 2002.
 

 

 

Philip Wm Mckinley
Director, Co- Conceiver (US)
Mr. McKinley directed the five-time TONY-nominated Broadway musical “The Boy from Oz” starring Hugh Jackman, the revival of “The Most Happy Fella” starring Paul Sorvino at the New York City Opera, the 1999 Drama Desk-nominated hip comedy “Thwack”, and the Off-Broadway musical “Zombie Prom”.

He was nominated for a Barrymore Award as Best Director of the new musical “Nerds:// A Musical Software Satire” which played at the Philadelphia Theater Company and garnered seven Barrymores including Best Score and Best Book for a Musical. McKinley devised and directed Kenneth Feld’s European-style one-ring “Barnum’s Kaleidescope” and conceived, directed and staged the 128th - 133rd and 135th edi¬tions of “Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey’s The Greatest Show on Earth”. He most recently directed and conceived with Kenneth and Nicole Feld, his tenth Ringling production making him the person who has directed more editions of “Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey” than any other living person.

Mr McKinley directed “Ben Hur Live”, an operatic sports spectacular which had its world premiere in September 2009 at the “02 Dome in London. He is also developing with producer Dean Zanuck the original movie musical “State of Affairs”, and developing a series of animated films for Pixar.

 

 

Ray Winkler
Architect, Show designer, Co-Conceiver (UK)

Ray has been an architect and production designer at Stufish since 1997. His recent work includes the set design for “BeLIEve”, the Criss Angel magic show produced by Cirque du Soleil at the Luxor in Las Vegas, and the design for the 2012 London Olympic Handover Ceremony at the closing of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In 2007 Ray designed Robbie Williams’ “Close Encounters” arena and stadium tour, the nine worldwide ‘Live Earth’ stages, the “Take That European Arena Tour” and a multi media outdoor show for Universal Studios Japan. Ray has also designed numerous live TV shows, including MTV Icons, MTV Movie Awards, the EMAs in Edinburgh, Rome, Lisbon and Copenhagen, the BRITS in London and the NFL Superbowl in Detroit. He has also worked on tours for U2 and the Rolling Stones, and designed shows for Johnny Hallyday at the Eiffel Tower and the Olympia Theatre in Paris, and multimedia spectacles for Jean Michel Jarre at the Great Pyramids in Giza and the Acropolis in Greece.

 

 

Music Creators

 

Jonathan Lim
Composer (Singapore)

Jonathan has over a decade’s experience crafting music scores for a variety of award-winning movies and commercial jingles in Asia. His projects include “The Singapore Story” - Singapore’s largest 3D multimedia display on permanent exhibit in the Singapore History Museum, and the multiple-award winning film, ‘15’. The film collected ac¬colades at the Deauville Asian Film Festival, Buenos Aires and was broadly nominated at the Venice and Sundance Film Festivals.

Commercially, Jonathan has produced highly successful jingles for clients such as Coca-Cola, Canon, Tiger Beer, Panasonic, JVC, KFC and M1, to name a few. Classically trained, Jonathan is renowned across Asia for his talent in crafting music that fuses both East and West. From emotive soundtracks in local cinematic pro¬ductions to high-energy pieces for 3D multimedia performances, Jonathan’s artistic versatility and his trademark ability of blending Eastern and Western orchestrations, makes him nonpareil in the music industry. He is based in Singapore and spends his time between Singapore, Tibet and his residence in Beijing.

 

 

Maribeth Derry
Lyricist (US)

A graduate of the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University with a graduate degree in Musical Theatre, Maribeth Derry worked for three seasons of Repertory Theatre and Off Broadway Musicals before settling in Pittsburgh where she hosted and produced a morning talk show on the NBC affiliate, and produced local children’s theatre. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a songwriting career where she was much sought after as a lyricist. She received two Emmy Awards for her work in television, including her main title theme for “Fame LA”. Spending part of each year in Nashville, she co-wrote the song I Can Love You Like That in 1995, which went to #1 Country with John Michael Montgomery, and #3 Pop for the group All -4-One. It was the ASCAP and BMI Song of The Year, and was nominated for two Grammy awards: Best Pop Song and Best Country Song.

Over the next few years, Maribeth had continuous chart success in Country music, including two chart toppers for Lonestar, Not a Day Goes By and Let’s Be Us Again. Her film work includes the End Titles to “The Rugrats In Paris” (When You Love), and “The Wild Thornberrys” (Bridge to The Stars), and a song in “The Wedding Planner” (Adore You). Currently, Maribeth is in development on several new original live stage productions with her ‘Ten Commandments’ collaborator, Patrick Leonard (best known for his work with Madonna, Elton John, Bryan Ferry, Roger Waters) and they are negotiating to write the music and lyrics for a live stage production of ‘The Secret Life Of Bees’. A new production of “The Ten Commandments” is scheduled to open in Toronto Canada, in June of 2010, directed by French director, Elie Chouraqui, the creator of the original French mega hit, “Les Dix Commandments”.

Virginia Chu
Costume Designer (Hong Kong)

Virginia Chu is an award winning costume designer with over 15 years of costume experience. For 10 years, she was the Costume Department Head of the Hong Kong Ballet, producing over 70 productions, such as “Swan Lake”, “Nutcracker”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “The Last Emperor”, “Coppelia” and “Romeo & Juliet”.

In 2005, she was recipient of Hong Kong’s Best Costume Design for her work in “Legend of the Great Archer”. Later that year she left the Ballet to work as the Senior Costumer for the mega-launch of Disneyland Hong Kong, producing costumes for Festival of the Lion King, Golden Mickey, Day Parade, opening show, as well as the park scenarios and themed hotel costume set. In 2006, she set up Limelight Costume Services, providing costume services to Broadway organizations and global entertainment companies throughout Asia. Their work included Lea Salonga in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella World Tour 2008”, “Sound of Music” Asia Tour 2008, “The King & I” Asia Tour 2007 and “Swan Lake” at Esplanade Theatre, presented by Singapore Dance Theatre.

Paul Cockle With The Generating Company
Producers (UK)
The Generating Company (Genco) started in the year 2000 as a result of the Millennium Dome Central show. The company led by Paul Cockle was instrumental in the refurbish¬ment of The Circus Space combustion chamber and the setting up of a degree in Circus Skills in Central London The Dome show featured 162 performers and 287 technicians. Since the year 2000, the company has gone from strength to strength dealing with ever larger projects. Genco has worked closely with Studio Fish on a number of shows in Universal Studios in Japan and in Shenzhen southern China producing the world’s largest water show.

Genco is Britain’s leading contemporary circus production company producing spectacular circus shows and events for a global audience. As Line Producers Genco have put together the Creative and production teams and have managed the show development and delivery for Resorts World. Genco works extensively devising original shows for a commercial market the company has recently established a creative production centre in South West France where all its work is now researched and developed. Genco sees Circus as the fusion of Physical theatre, Dance choreography, music and design. Genco has worked hard recruiting locally to develop the Technical and production support required to deliver Singapore’s first circus theatre spectacular and looks forward to this being the first of many original shows made in Singapore.
